Flying around the globe nowadays have become very common, either you are heading to your summer vacation or family visit for the holiday, flying is the fastest and most convenient way to go. Affordable flights are also very easy to find, however, cheap tickets come with crazy rules sometimes, from having to pay for a check in luggage to asking the airline to print your boarding pass – to the point that you would rather drive.
One of the most common questions I get from my readers is if it’s expensive to fly. I would answer yes, it is. But if you know how and when to book your flights, you can get really great deals. As I’m writing this article, I already have a list of things I should purchase for my blog and business the day after Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is mostly practised in the US, where discounts and prices are going crazy – in a good way. Even people who don’t live in the US can actually get an amazing benefit from this holiday. You can also check the Luxury Travel Hacks for great tips.
Black Friday Flight Deals
In the past years of travelling and blogging, I notice how many brands and companies who drop their prices and handing out discounts left and right. Many companies would offer up to 70% off during Black Friday which is the day after Thanksgiving. This is the day where the biggest discounts are being rolled out. Where shops and shoppers will go on a pit (the shopping mall) and try to get and buy things that they have been wanting this entire year.
Cyber Monday Flight Deals
The Thanksgiving celebration is extended until the following Monday, although the discount can be lower, 30% to 50% is still a great deal while many companies would even drop a great sale at this very day to keep the hype going. While the digital world is not behind this amazing sale party, those who prefer to stay home can still enjoy and participate. Skyscanner has published this page with Cyber Monday Flight Deals.
When is the best time to book flights for your next holiday
If you are planning a trip for the summer or Easter or even for Christmas and New Year, bring out your laptop or phone because Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the two best time of the year to book a flight. When finding the cheapest flight ticket, we already heard of the “middle of the week” rule or the “three-month” rule, however, these two days can beat all the rules that you have been following all these years.
I remember last year, it was during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday season when I booked a flight to the Philippines for December, I was able to get a very good deal and made it home for Christmas.
What is the best site to search for a flight
Personally, I use Skyscanner. I’ve been using it for five years now, from the Far East of Asia to the up north of Europe and to the western point of Americas. Even I try to use other websites, Skyscanner is always the one that gives me the best results. I even wrote an article about how to book the cheapest flight to everywhere in the world.
How does Skyscanner work
Skyscanner is a search engine website for flights, hotels, and car hire. They pull all the airlines and other website’s data of the best, cheapest, fastest flights that are available in the digital world. It helps you compare one flight to another. The best about this site is that they do not charge an admin or service fee or anything like that.
If you think booking directly to the airline will save you money, you’re wrong. Most of the time when I use Skyscanner, they are often a lot cheaper than the airline’s website itself.
After Skyscanner bring you a result to choose from, it will either keep you on the site to finish your booking or will take you to another site to fill out your information and pay.
How to get the best out of this holiday
Let’s skip the need to battle our way around the shops. Stay home and still make the best out if this holiday by planning your next vacation in the warmth of your home and the speed of your internet. Here are the steps to plan a great trip without breaking the bank:
2 Weeks Before Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Plan your ideal holiday by yourself or with your family. If you have kids to consider, make a list of the places they want to go or things they want to do. Remember to ask your husband or family members of their inputs and things to remember; checking if the destination is PWD, pet or kid-friendly. Double check if everyone’s off time from school and work matches.
Make a list for questions to answer:
- Where/destinations (check if there is an airport or where is the nearest airport)
- If you are feeling adventurous, Skyscanner has the option to scan the flights to everywhere in the world, it will show where to go where the flights are the cheapest
- When/your departure time (+/- few days)
- How long will you be there, how many nights
- How many are coming
- Activities to do
- When/date to fly home
1 Week Before Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Go back to your list and see if you have finally decided where to go and have answered all your questions. If everything seems fine, make sure to collect everyone’s passport and keep them in safe. Next is to get on your laptop or phone or tablet and check the prices on the dates you are planning to leave and go home.
Make a list of the cost and the schedule of the flights, according to the following:
- Cheapest flight; which airline and how long is the travel time
- Fastest flight; which airline and how long is the travel time
- Fanciest flight (if you want to treat yourself for a luxury trip); which airline and how long is the travel time
Do the same for the tours, hotel accommodations, and car rental if you need one. This list will help you compare the prices, track down which airlines to keep an eye on, and see which flights are best to check during the sale days so you won’t have to spend your time looking at the options that are no good for you.
Lastly, set the table where you will be working on. Have your laptop or tablet ready, and make sure that the internet connection works great in that spot. Prepare at least two credit cards as well in case one of them fail to work. You probably should ask your children or family members to not disturb you.
On the day
Planning an entire holiday for yourself is already a big work, planning for the entire family is a lot more. So, make sure that you have eaten enough to sustain you for the next 2-4 hours.
Place the passport at arm’s length, many flight booking sites will time you, if you haven’t been active for more than 10 minutes, the result will be refreshed and you might lose your possible tickets.
Fire up your device and head to Skyscanner. If you are looking for more than one person, always search for the total number of people or else there will be a chance that you won’t be on the same flight. Skyscanner has the feature to set the price in the whole month in case you are flexible with your dates.
Pull out the list you made a week ago and compare the flight prices, schedules, length of time, and the airline you prefer.
Once you found the best flight for you, fill out the information and pay. After the booking has been confirmed, do not close the page until you receive the confirmation on your email. If it’s taking a while, screenshot the confirmation from the booking page and save it on your device.
While waiting or after you have received your email confirmation, it’s time to work on hotels, tours, and car rental and follow the instructions again.
When you are all done, double check if you received the email confirmations, if not, reach out to Skyscanner, they have a reliable customer support or the booking site where they directed you to.
That’s it from me today! I really hope that you found this article useful and it answered your question why Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the best time to book flights for your next vacation. Good luck and have a great holiday!
