Recommended Mid-Range Family Hotel- Melis Cave Hotel
Melis Cave Hotel is a perfect hotel for family travellers. Owned and managed by a Turkish family who had this hotel for more than 14 years.
The owner Mr Murat grew up in this very house, fascinated meeting travellers, he decided to put up his own agency. Years later, he bought the lot space just right by his house to build a hotel.
Located only 5-minute walk to the town centre of Urgup where you could find great local restaurants and souvenirs shops. In the town centre, you will also get a chance to climb up a cave hill that gives a great view of the area.
Melis Cave Hotel is only a 10-minute drive from Goreme and Cappadocia, this area is where the hot air balloon takes off. There are also plenty of tours that you could do in here.
There is a minibus that drives every half an hour from the town centre of Urgup to Goreme and Nevsehir.
I stayed in one of their suite room for two nights. It’s a beautiful and interesting room as it was a proper cave from the 9th century. With the touch of Ottoman interior, I felt like I was dragged back in time, where people used to live in caves but with classic Ottoman ambience.
The bed is queen size, which is perfect for couple travellers or family travellers. It has an en-suite bathroom which is still presented as a cave as well. The bathtub is something I loved about this room.
If you have been following my past article about my recommended hotels, you will notice that I always provide a special section for the bathtub. My suite room has a bathtub which I, of course, taken a good look right after I enter the bathroom.
The bathtub has great size and comfortable head rest. The hot water runs perfectly and strongly. The shower amenities are also great as it has a good relaxing smell.
The Buffet Breakfast
Melis Cave Hotel offers complimentary buffet breakfast to all its guests. The food variety is quite huge, where you will have options such as bread, cereals, fruits, eggs, meat, and salad. You can also choose from juice, coffee, and tea for beverage.
The Garden / Children Play Area
This is one of my favourite area of Melis Cave Hotel is their garden, here you can sit and have your breakfast. A comfortable garden couches and tables are scattered around. A very spacious area where children could play without going too far from your eyesight. There is a children playground and a table tennis area for families and kids to enjoy too.
The Outdoor Swimming Pool
I was in Melis Cave Hotel around mid-September, this lets me have a good summer heat where I could just plunge into the pool. Sunbeds are also aligned on the side of the pool for people who loves to go sunbathing.
I really enjoy staying in boutique hotels as it gives a special personal touch not only by the atmosphere but also its people. After a long journey, I arrived in Melis Cave Hotel at 2.00 in the morning. I was greeted by the energetic receptionist who took me to my room right away so I could rest.
The next day, during breakfast I was able to meet the owner, Murat. He told me about the hotel, he also generously provided great information about the places to visit around. You will constantly meet Murat, as he likes to be hands on the business.
The only thing I noticed about my room is the lack of light in the bathroom and the nightstand. I understand that this is also because of the cave setup.
Whilst I was relaxing in the bathtub, it was a little bit dark in that area. In the nightstand, the light is not bright enough for reading. Another note is the minibar options, I arrived quite late, I was hungry but the stores are all closed. In the minibar, unfortunately, there are only drinks available. However, these issues are very minimal and could be fixed easily.
Melis Cave Hotel is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a secluded place. It’s quite and spacious for children. The hammocks gave a great effect for everyone who wants to listen to the birds singing whilst enjoying a delicious Turkish tea.
