Travel Bank Cards in the Philippines:
Visa & MasterCard

Best Travel Bank Cards In The Philippines

It’s not only money that hinders Filipino to travel the world, for an average Filipino individual like me, I wasn’t taught how important it is to get my own bank account and save my own money. In the Philippines, we pay almost everything in cash, even until today, cash is still the main mode of payment.

When I started working, I had to open a bank account where I will receive my salary, which I closed later on when I left the country and moved to Denmark. In Denmark, I opened a bank account too, which I had to close since I can’t use it outside of the country. When I get to Vietnam, where I started my first backpacking trip, I know I have to get a bank card that I can use to book flights and accommodations.

I walked to a local but popular bank in Vietnam where I was able to open an account and request for a Visa and MasterCard easily. Although this has been easy to set up, I had a hard time to deal with the issues; I don’t know anyone there that I can disturb every time I get into trouble with my bank.

Now that I’m back in the Philippines, my top priority is to open a bank account where I can get a Visa/MasterCard. Here are the best travel bank cards in the Philippines.

UPDATE: I applied for a visa savings account through LandBank which comes with a visa card and an online banking account. I linked it with my Paypal.

Metrics I used for the best travel bank cards in the Philippines

  • low maintaining balance to no maintaining balance
  • at least it comes with a Visa Card (in most cases, transferring money from your Paypal to a MasterCard is not possible)
  • online Banking (will be useful when I need to print my latest bank statement for visa purposes)
  • can be linked to Paypal (transfer and withdraw money) - since my client on my blog pay me through Paypal

There are two options I have on the list here; a Travel Card (top up card) or open a regular savings account and request for a Visa/MasterCard
