1. Dubrovnik

Starting off in the south, Dubrovnik is usually recognized as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”. Orange rooftops contrast the blue sky and this city offers numerous sightseeing possibilities.

The cobblestone streets, the Old Town, defensive walls, palaces, and churches have stolen the breath of many visitors, locking in famous filmmakers as well. Not too far away is also the Lokrum island with a symbolic history.

2. The Makarska Riviera

Moving a little up north, we find the breathtaking Makarska Riviera. It consists of many smaller and serene resorts, but the largest one is Makarska itself. This is a top pick for young people, as well as families and children.

Makarska is such a sun and sea holiday, and it has many luxurious villas for a perfect getaway, and you can find them on this website. Nearby is Mount Biokovo which is very loved by hikers!

3. Islands of Croatia

Yes, we know it’s cheating to put these very independent and self-sufficient destinations under one spot, but hear us out. Islands such as Hvar, Korčula, Brač, and others have everything to offer – sand beaches, cliff jumping, sailing, hiking, and are easily reachable by ferry.

Many of them have must-see bays, coves, and caves you do not want to miss out on. They also offer historic heritages protected under UNESCO.

4. Split

You have probably heard of this one by now, but did you know its nickname is “Mediterranean Flower”? Rich in Roman history because of the Diocletian Palace in the centre, the old town is the romantic spot you’re looking for – with all those marble walkways, buildings, cafes, shops, and bars.

5. Istria

Yeah, we definitely think a whole region could be your destination! Istria is too abundant in culture and scenery to only be simmered down to one city.

The places you need to see are Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, and smaller towns like Motovun. Pula has the Amphitheater, Rovinj the colourful buildings and you will try the best truffles in the Motovun area.

6. Zagreb

Maybe you’re not really all for those beach holiday spots, so Zagreb would be the pick for you. Being the capital, its got many modern attractions in the Lower Town, while the Upper town is the historic centre.

The symbols of Zagreb are the Ban Jelačić Square, the Stone Gate, the Dolac Market, and others. In the proximity are also the Plitvice Lakes, which should definitely be on your to-do list!

Whether you are looking to visit those Mediterranean cities, enjoy the gastronomy, relax on the beach or enjoy the cities up north with a special tradition, Croatia has it all for you!

We’ll just leave you with the fact that it is one of the countries with the most award-winning destinations for environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism.
