A Magical Experience in Cappadocia – Hot Air Balloon Flight With Butterfly Balloons
Sunrise over the hot air balloon
Cappadocia is a magical place like no other place I have ever been. The caves and valleys across the region of Anatolia are unbelievably beautiful. It was like looking into an unnatural picture, no wonder that people from everywhere in the world are attracted to visit this fascinating place.
The first thing you need to know is, Cappadocia is only an area. There are five popular towns around it, these are, Nevsehir, Urgup, Uchisar, Kayseri, and Goreme. Goreme is the nearest town to Cappadocia, it is also the place where most tourist stays. Whilst there are two airports near Goreme. One in Nevsehir and one in Kayseri. Both airports are an hour drive to Goreme.
Riding a hot air balloon is one of the best ways to have a good overview of Cappadocia and Goreme. Though the area of Cappadocia is quite huge, the government permitted only a few balloons to be flown here.
My Hot Air Balloon Ride With Butterfly Balloons
There are tonnes of companies of hot air balloon in Goreme. I flew with Butterfly Balloons as they have great reviews online. Experiencing the hot air balloon is not cheap, thus deciding who to fly with is quite a challenge. Butterfly Balloons has been flying over Goreme and Cappadocia for over 6 years now. It’s one of the most popular balloon company in the area.
On the day of the ride, I was picked up from my hotel at 4.50 am, then I was driven to their office to have a light breakfast. We then drove off to Cappadocia, where all the balloons are permitted to take off.
It was thrilling to watch how they set up the balloon. We were 17 people in the balloon, included our experienced pilot Mr Gunal. The balloon was divided into five sections, four corners where guests will be standing and the pilot area in the middle.
Mr Gunal speaks very good English, he explained to us the landing safety procedure. He also has a great sense of humour for the guests who might have a little bit of worry about being up in the air.
He took us high enough to see all the valleys around. Mr Gunal also explained which valleys are which. It was great that he rotated us fairly well, so all the guests get the chance to have a 360 view of the whole area.
The timing was perfect, we took off on a good time to see the sunrise. It was magical to actually watch the sun passed the horizon of our eyes. The colours were beautiful and so surreal. The caves below our feet are magnificent. It was like a view from a perfect photo.
Before we landed, Mr Gunal took the balloon low enough to see the cave formations a few metres from us, it was amazing to see them that close. We landed smoothly, all safety measures were executed to make sure that the guests are safe to leave the basket.
We popped a bottle of champagne and enjoyed some fruits and cakes as a celebration of such a wonderful experience. All guests also received a certificate of the flight experience. My experience with Butterfly Balloons was really great, all the crew was so friendly and professional. All of them speaks good English and easy to approach.
