Safety is the most important thing so regardless of where you are, you should be using a helmet while you ride your motorcycle. Using a helmet while riding is especially important if you are traveling through Southeast Asia because some countries in the region have strict helmet laws. So, if you are not looking to be punished for something that you could have prevented, put that helmet on.

You should choose a good quality helmet that can protect you while you are riding. There are tons to choose from so do some research before making your decision of which helmet you should get. There are also helmets that are made specifically for long-distance traveling, and they come with extra features to ensure comfort throughout your journey.

Tire Repair Kit

Motorcycles are very popular in Southeast Asia so you can easily find a motorcycle repair shop in any town, in any Southeast Asian country. However, you should still pack a tire repair kit with you in case of an emergency. Who knows, you might find yourself in a situation where your motorcycle needs a quick fix while you are on the highway.

If you have enough space in your bag, you can pack a larger repair kit but a small kit with just the essentials will still do the job. Another tip when traveling a foreign country on a motorcycle is to keep an eye out for any tire repair shops when you make a stop in a town. Get their contacts in case you need someone to fix your motorcycle in the middle of the road. You will be surprised at how far someone would go to help a motorcyclist in need.

Southeast Asian weather can be unpredictable so your choice of clothing will have to be more varied. Take Malaysia for example, the sun might shine brightly in the morning but an hour later, you might get drenched in the rain. In most countries, you might be able to get away with just a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a leather jacket but that is not the case in Southeast Asia.

If you wonder what clothes you should pack for your Southeast Asian trip, just look at what the locals are wearing. Their choice of outfit would be a great example of what to wear in the hot and humid weather of Southeast Asia. Choose something that can help you stay cool under the hot sun but can cover you, so you do not get burnt. Also, get a rain jacket to protect yourself in case it starts raining while you are riding your motorcycle.

For your Southeast Asian motorcycle trip, you will need a bag or two to hold all your necessities. Since you are traveling across a foreign country where you are far away from home, you will want to make sure you have everything you need. The choice of bags would be up to you and the space you have on your motorcycle, but you should pack at least one large bag and one sling bag.

The large bag can be a duffel bag or a backpack but should be spacious enough to hold items like a tire repair kit, your clothes, and perhaps a sleeping kit. The sling bag would be to keep smaller items like your phone, wallet, and your passport. The design of the sling bag would also make it easier for you to keep the bag close to you so that you do not misplace it.

Miscellaneous Items – Toiletries, Food, and Drinks

There are tons of other things that you should have on your person before you start your motorcycle journey. One of which is basic toiletries like a toothbrush set and a deodorant. Another important item is bug repellent because you will surely encounter a few bugs when you are in Southeast Asia, so it is best to be prepared.

You should also store some food and drinks in your bag before you start riding. The Southeast Asian weather can get quite harsh so keep a large bottle of water with you so you can stay hydrated and cool. As for food, you can just store a few energy bars in your bag and that would be enough to hold your hunger down until you find a food stall or a restaurant. Make sure to replenish your food and drinks at every stop, before you continue your journey.
