Thank you for this list it’s very helpful.
Canada requires an eta, that needs to be applied for online, with a small fee, 72 hours before entering the country. Valid for 5years and can be used for multiple entries. You will not be permitTed to board your Canadian bound plane without it.

Hey Charlie! You don't have to pay any fee when you enter any Schengen states, as long as you stay on the 90-day rule. When crossing borders, it's basically nothing, there will be no border checkers or anything unless it's one of the stricter ones like Sweden, Denmark, France, etc. Always have you fly out ticket ready in case you will be asked in any border points.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions :)

Hiya,

So... I don't want to sound like a total idiot; however I am traveling through a few Shengen visa countries and was wondering if you still have to pay a fee to get in everytime you cross a border? and just to specify; do you need a Shengen visa before hand if you are an Australian permanent resident on an Australia passport? I know you have stated above that Australians recive a 90 day stay. I am only asking as this is my first time to Europe and I really need to some to clarify/confirm this for me.

Thank you! X

You should edit China and state that transit free visas are allowed up to 72 hours at certain cities and Beijing and Shanghai offer 180 hour transit visas.

I've been to a lot of visa situations that make me scared of going back to a specific place, I understand how upsetting it must be to be in such situations. I'm glad you are able to get out though and to know that you will be able to enter in the future if you change your mind.

I emailed the Indian Foreign Minister pointing out I paid for a year not 90 days.
Part of the problem is as you say the staff don't know the system. I received an email from the FRRO saying my request for an exit permit was 'closed' I went to the FRRO reception. They asked me if I'd paid money. I said nobody asked me for any money. Then I was taken up stairs to the IM cell. I was told to bring my bags there at 11.30 the next morning. So I bought an airline ticket that day to Kathmandu and was taken to he airport by immigration and finally left India.
Of course I don't really expect the Foregin Minister to reply. I've had enough of India which is a shame. But the whole thing was a nightmare. I was told by an immigration officer I could return to India because there was no 'black mark' against my name. But I don't have any confidence in them.

Hey Frank, thanks for dropping by! Sorry to hear about what happened. It must be stressful. I've been travelling for quite some time now and the visa issue always gets to me. It changes so fast and the staffs who supposed to know how it works are often clueless about the changes leaving tourists paying more money and wasting so much time.

Good luck with your next trip! If you are confused about something regarding visa, let me know. I'll try to help x

Great blog. Keep it going.
I have just experienced 11 days of hell trying to exit India.
I applied for a one year tourist visa, received and paid for it. Only to find out when I was leaving I supposed to leave after 90 days.
It never occurred to me this might be be case.
I've been there many times but won't go back again.
It's too crazy.
